Aberdeen Renewable Energy Group (AREG) and its members are engaged in developing a sustainable renewable energy sector in Aberdeen City and Shire and promoting these capabilities across Scotland and worldwide. Renewable energy represents a natural transfer of skills from Aberdeen’s international offshore energy engineering expertise, world-class research and development capabilities and long history of technology innovation. To support this development activity, AREG is involved in a number of high profile Scottish projects: • Developing the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre off the coast of Aberdeen in partnership with Vattenfall Wind Power UK and project facilitator SEGEC (Scottish European Green Energy Centre) • Building a state of the art Energy Futures Centre to anchor and attract the best energy expertise under one roof • Establishing a renewables research cluster in the region and a Professorship in Energy Futures, supported by the University of Aberdeen, the Robert Gordon University and Aberdeen City Council • Developing a regional biomass strategy to utilise local resources and establish innovative solutions for applications in electricity generation and biofuels • Supporting the continued development of the Aberdeen based All-Energy Exhibition and Conference, now in its tenth year • Developing trade links and identifying business opportunities in renewables around the world.
