Networking Events / Business Lunches
These events are held quarterly and include guest speakers from major contactors within the target markets. In recent months, for example, we have featured presentations from Aker Kvaerner, Wood Group and Scottish & Southern Energy. NSIG also occasionally invites presentations from other agencies, groupings, or businesses that it feels might be of interest to the members.

Focus Groups
At present there are four focus groups (Oil & Gas, Renewable Energy, Caithness & Orkney, and Moray & Inverness), with more to follow. These are action groups comprised of members whose business falls within these categories or areas, and meetings allow members to highlight issues that are then taken up by the NSIG on their behalf. There are currently two to three meetings per year for each group, though this is flexible dependant on events, and requests from the group.

Exhibitions
The group currently exhibits at the Renewable Energy focused All-Energy exhibition in Aberdeen annually as well as the Oil & Gas focused Offshore Europe in Aberdeen, and OTC in Houston, both alternate years. Members are welcome to use the NSIG stand, and invitations are also issued to industry companies to visit the stand.

Projects and Events
Issues occasionally arise for the NSIG to highlight and address on behalf of the membership. Typical topics could be the Skills Shortage in the area, addressing renewables concerns and objections, investigating the possibilities and problems relating to offshore decommissioning. This could take the form of a seminar to air all shades of opinion, or it could be through a presentation from a relevant body.

Marketing, Promoting, Lobbying, Collaborating
In addition to attending major exhibitions and events, the NSIG also promotes members and their business achievements through our quarterly newsletter, Business North (see Downloads), as well as featuring members and their services on the website. Additional promotion is achieved through networking with other agencies, co-operating where required and desirable.
Another major element of the work of the NSIG is lobbying on behalf of members and their interests. This involves meetings with relevant MPs and MSPs on a regular basis, and includes attending relevant committee meetings at Holyrood.
The NSIG is also actively collaborating with other agencies nationally and locally to benefit the members, and also to provide a stronger, more unified voice when addressing common issues of interest and concern.
