Further step to make tendering process easier
22/11/2007
An initiative to simplify the contracting process in the oil and gas industry took a further step forward in Aberdeen yesterday...
Industry body Oilamp; Gas UK (OGUK) said the move would help to streamline bidding and tendering, and lead to cost savings of up to £50,000 per bid by eliminating duplication.
Three new guideline documents - known as model invitation to tenders (ITTs) - were launched to cover contracting in the areas of marine construction, topside support and well services.
They were developed under the auspices of the supply chain's code of practice to complement an existing ITT for the drilling sector.
Ian Donaldson, chairman of OGUK's supply chain forum, said: "The new model ITTs will provide an easier and faster way to produce, issue and respond to invitation to tenders and bid packages. We envisage approximate savings in the region of £25,000 to £50,000 per bid. Given the volume of spending across the industry, this will translate into savings running into millions of pounds annually."
OGUK supply chain manager Norman McLennan added the development of these new model ITTs was a further example of the "meaningful pan-industry initiatives" being developed and undertaken by OGUK's new supply chain forum.
The forum comprises representatives from most of the major oil and gas companies as well as small to medium-sized independent operators, contractors and industry associations.
